| About my art!
I have drawn cartoons since I was very young; my mom had one she saved for eons called "The show-offs" that I had done in the first grade of the boys in my class standing on their heads and such trying to impress a girl in my class.
I did an entire running comic strip for my brother in letters to him during the Vietnam War while he was in the Navy. I admire his patience, I was in elementary school the whole time, and I'm sure the jokes were juvenile at best! I can't remember what it was called, but it featured a rattlesnake that for some reason was Chinese and spoke with a lisp!
I have done art professionally as an adult, from simple logos to things such as a coloring book and a banner that is carried ever year in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. Much of my work has been done for schools and Renaissance Festivals, coast to coast; Pennsylvania to California! I have won recognition for watercolor and acrylic painting, and was honored with several awards from my peers. Unfortunately, all that work was lost in my home fire as well.
I am categorized as "disabled" now, and my larger work is suspended until such time that situation is perhaps reversed. I have Systemic Lupus Erythemetosis, with a solid helping of Fibromyalgia, Sjorgen's Syndrome, Antiphosopholipid Antibody Syndrome with neurological involvement. I avoid doctors now as a religion; I'm afraid I will have to learn another long word!
How its done!
Most of the work on Grizelda is done in Jasc Paint Shop Pro6. I have a scanner that is on its last legs after only a year, so I am learning to do all the artwork directly; The Five Fold Kiss and The Charge of the Goddess were both done entirely on the computer. I added the text/thought bubbles to the cartoons with CompuPic Pro, since I have not been able to figure out how to do it in Paint Shop yet. I am software and html challenged, but I am learning!
About the characters!
My own dachshund, DaisyMae , is the model for Helmut and Hazel; and I have more than one friend who deals with dyslexia thru a good sense of humor. Kind friends who have repeatedly looked at my distressingly unprofessional web site as it is developing, and encouraged me in spite of all the errors. For this and so much more, thank you all, you know who you are!
I am pleased to count as friends people from a varied rainbow of paths. Buddhist, Baptist, Catholic, Native American, Hindu, Shaman, Taoist, Wiccan and just plain ole folk born as natural "wise women" are among the people who grace my life with their beauty. It is from them and their good humor at my "pun-ishment" that Grizelda was born. Some of the jokes are pretty obscure if you are not from that particular path, but I feel its important to share laughter across all lines; we know and accept each other when we can share a laugh!
I sincerely hope each person who visits here will find at least one good chuckle before they leave.
May you walk in beauty,
CopperPenny/aka LisaKay Allen
